????Location at the end! Everything you need to know????????
Maybe you didn’t know the name officially, but I’m sure you have seen photos of this picturesque town online. It is even better in real life!! I was worried that going during peak season it would be overly crowded, but that was not the case.
This little town is somehow still very well preserved because it’s kind of hard to get to, so I don’t think a lot of people want to deal with it.
My friends & I flew in to Munich to rent a car, then drove 3 1/2 hours here & stayed nearby in an air bnb. You can also fly in to Salzburg, Austria & drive — that would only be 1 hour drive. I recommend the same.
Although it is a small town, there’s a decent amount to do nearby, so I recommend having 2 full days in this area.
Some activities you can do are:
— Walk the Main Street. Look at shops, eat, drink, etc.
— Rent an electric boat for an hour to take on the lake for $40. You can’t reserve them in advance, only on site. They are very easy to get though & are weather permitting
— Explore more of the streets. Venture off away from the Main Street and wander the streets. We found a hidden stairway that lead to a better view of the town
— Visit the near by ice caves
— Take a gondola to the top to see a lookout of the lake (reserve this in advance online since it sells out)
— Visit Dachstein Krippenstein & ride the gondola to the top. Explore the different cave systems & another lookout point
Overall it’s not too expensive here unless you do a lot of activities. The meals are about $15 per person & the activities range in price. Keep in mind you also need to buy the gondola tickets as well though which can add up.
