EP Desk, Nagaland 1 Dec 2025:
Nagaland marked a spectacular opening to the 26th Edition of the Hornbill Festival 2025 at the Heritage Village, Kisama — celebrating the vibrant cultural identity of the state and its 17 major tribes. Known as the “Festival of Festivals”, the annual event continues to be one of India’s biggest cultural attractions.

This year’s edition underscores the importance of preserving tribal heritage, traditional art forms, and indigenous lifestyles. Each tribe brings forward its unique music, dance, handloom traditions, crafts, and folklore. The Konyak tribe, the largest tribe of Nagaland, stands out with their powerful warrior dances, tattooed elders, and their rich cultural narrative that fascinates visitors year after year.
The Hornbill Festival has witnessed massive growth in popularity. The 25th edition in 2024 recorded 2,05,968 visitors at the main venue in Kisama — reflecting the increasing global interest in Naga culture, heritage tourism, and indigenous traditions.

Distinguished Guests at the Inaugural Event
The inaugural programme for the 2025 edition was graced by several international dignitaries and special invitees, including:
Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France
Kevin Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland
Maya Tissafi, Ambassador of Switzerland
Hans-Jörg Hortnagl, Austrian Trade Commissioner
Dr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner

Their presence highlights the growing global recognition of the festival and its role in promoting cultural diplomacy.

Visitors this year can expect a rich lineup of traditional performances, indigenous games, Naga wrestling, food festivals, art exhibitions, crafts bazaars, and musical evenings — blending tradition with modern vibrancy.

As the Hornbill Festival 2025 continues over the next days, it promises an unforgettable experience of unity, cultural pride, and celebration — honouring the past while inspiring the future for the people of Nagaland.
