The Mirabell Gardens (in German Mirabellgarten) are the gardens surrounding the Mirabell Palace in the Austrian city of Salzburg. They consist of:

Large and small parterre (in German Große und Kleine Parterr) - the small and large axis of the parterre with artesian fountains
Rosary (in German Rosengarten) - former large orangery
Orangery (in German Orangerie) - former small orangery
Theater Garden (in German Theatergarten or Heckentheater)
Garden of the Dwarves (in German Zwergelgarten)
The bastion garden (in German Bastionsgarten) - the water bastion

as well as some buildings in the park. To the north, the Mirabell Gardens adjoin the former Mirabell Bastion (also known as St Vitalis Bastion) in the Kurgarten.

Fountain of Pegasus
The fountain is primarily known as a place for wedding photography. Innsbruck metal artist Kaspar Gras, who also designed the monument to Archduke Leopold in Innsbruck, completed the work in 1661 at the behest of Archbishop Guidobald von Thun. The winged stallion remained in Kapitelplatz until around 1700, when it was moved to Mirabell Square on the west side of the palace's baroque facade. The fountain was redesigned and expanded in 1732 by Felix Anton Danreiter, the Pegasus horse remaining in place.

After the great fire in Neustadt (1818), the bronze sculpture was temporarily stored and later forgotten. An attempt was made in 1836 to put it up for auction, not knowing its artistic value and historical significance.

The winged horse has been located since 1842 in the former "Hannibalplatz", now Makartplatz, a new location. The sculpture returned in 1859 to the storage of the newly established museum "Carolino Augusteum" (Salzburg Museum). In 1913 someone remembered the old sculpture and it was brought and placed on a rock plinth in the middle of a circular basin in the old fountain of Mirabell Gardens.

Mirabell Palace
Mirabell Palace (in German Schloss Mirabell) is a historical building in the city of Salzburg (Austria). The palace with the surrounding gardens is a monument of cultural heritage and is part of the Historic Center of the city of Salzburg, included in the UNESCO world heritage.
Historic

The Mirabell Palace was built in 1606 outside the medieval walls of the city of Salzburg according to Italian and French models, at the express request of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau as a residence for his mistress Salome Alt. When Raitenau was dismissed and arrested in 1612, Alt and her family were expelled and the palace received its current name from the Italian words mirabile and bella: "amazing", "wonderful". It was rebuilt in the Baroque style starting in 1710, according to the design of Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt. On June 1, 1815, the future King Otto of Greece was born here, while his father, Crown Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria of the House of Wittelsbach served as governor in the former Duchy of Salzburg. The current neoclassical appearance dates from around 1818, when the space was restored after a fire.

In its geometrically landscaped gardens, there are statues with a mythological theme dating from 1730 and four statuary ensembles (Eneas, Hercules, Paris and Pluto) made from 1690 by the Italian sculptor Ottavio Mosto. It stands out through the boxwood hedge.
