One of the most most visited places on the island of Corfu is Achilleion Palace
Built in 1890, according to the plans of the Italian architect Raffaelle Caritto, the Achilleion Palace was built on an area of 200,000 m2 and it was the summer residence for the Queen of Austria, Elizabeth, also known as Sissi, becoming over time a refuge for the sovereign, overthrown by the sadness caused by the loss of her only son, Rudolf.
Sissi was a great admirer of ancient Greece and a good connoisseur of the Greek language, she brought numerous marble statues with which she decorated each room of the castle. She visited often and loved this residence immensely.
