Austria's landscape is diverse - from particularly mountainous alpine regions in the west to flat plains in the east. And many lakes scattered all over the country. The most important river is the Danube, the second longest river in Europe, originating in the Black Forest of Germany and emptying into the Black Sea. Austria is largely covered by forests.
