A baby boy who was admitted to a hospital in the Spanish city of Valencia with Covid-19 just nine days after he was born has been discharged 70 days later, to the applause of medics.
Baby Petru was born at the Vithas Valencia 9 de Octubre hospital in October, but when he came home he contracted Covid-19 from his brother, who was asymptomatic, according to a statement from the hospital issued today.
Petru was admitted to intensive care a short time later, as he had trouble breathing.
His recovery was slow and complex and for the first period his parents could only see him by video call.
More than two months later, he has made a full recovery, and has finally been able to go home.
Staff in the hospital formed a guard of honour as his parents took him home.
