Austria may look small on the map, but most of it is vertical. Off-the-radar-villages and knockout alpine panoramic views are therefore no rarity and invite to be discovered. As a hiker, you will probably never get happier than dangling off a 2,000m precipice on a trail in Tyrol or Salzburgerland – watching meadows in bloom or the last light creeping down an immense peak of limestone. As if that was not enough, there are also numerous cities with gorgeous baroque architectures, the crystal-clear lakes of Salzkammergut and the beautiful valleys in Vorarlberg. All these lyrical places make Austria a perfect place to wander around.
