The Berchtesgadener Land forms the southeastern corner of Bavaria and extends into Austria in a wedge shape: the district borders directly on Austria in the east, south and southwest. The Berchtesgadener Land has a diverse landscape: it appears pre-Alpine and gently hilly in the north in the region around Freilassing in the Rupertiwinkel, alpine around Bad Reichenhall and high Alpine at its southern tip in Berchtesgaden with the second highest mountain in Germany, the 2,713 m high Watzmann.

The Berchtesgadener Land attracts with a lot of nature and excursion destinations, some of which are world-famous such as the Königssee and its St. Bartholomä peninsula, which is one of the most photographed motifs in the world.
