Best Party Town in Europe for New Year's Eve? ???????? Zagreb, Croatia

These days, Christmas and New Year in Croatia is much like many other countries that celebrate this holiday – there's a multitude of decorations, fir trees aplenty, a slightly manic shopping period for gifts and (more or less) a good holiday spirit.

Many places often have some kind of Christmas fair, with stalls selling food and drink (mulled/hot wine), Christmas ornaments and other little trinkets. These fairs normally start in the first week of December, and go through to very early January.

Zagreb, certainly, takes the Christmas period very seriously, with plenty of festive events throughout the city. I spent New Year's Eve in Zagreb, ringing in the year 2022. After a spontaneous bus ride from Salzburg Austria, I found myself booking a last min hostel in Zagreb, since everything was almost sold out at that time, and Croatia was the only city that wasn't on COVID restriction lockdown. I wouldn't go back to stay in the same hostel, as it was just mediocre. Although it was within walking distance to Zagreb's Ban Jelačić Square. The stage was located at the east end of Ban Jelačić Square, and the entire square was packed full of people, although only fully vaccinated people can entered the center stage, that includes me!
