(28 Dec 2020) Ukrainian ski resorts are extremely busy this season, amid uncertainty and closed resorts in Europe.
Ukraine has allowed winter sport resorts to remain open despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic while many EU nations have chosen to shut the slopes.
At Bukovel, one of the biggest ski resorts in Eastern Europe, there's almost no space until the end of next month, as people risk close contact with large numbers of people for a chance to get on the snow.
Resort management stressed that the possibility of contracting the virus is low but urged caution.
Bukovel hosts around two million people annually and about a quarter are normally foreign visitors.
Before the pandemic Ukrainians also enjoyed skiing at European resorts in Italy, Germany and Austria, but lockdowns, closures and travel regulations have made domestic arrangements far more attractive this season.
