In this episode of Cheap Family Travel, Mom and Regan backpacked through Europe for a month. Obviously traveling overseas is more expensive than traveling in our trailer, but as the kids are getting older, their love of travel is taking them further and further from home and I was lucky enough to get to tag along. We visited Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. Traveling on a budget can be tough, but we saved money on travel with the Eurail train pass, stayed in Airbnbs and hostels, and ate a lot of peanut butter and Top Ramen. However, we made sure to taste the local cuisine, visit museums, tour palaces, and enjoy the local sites and activities. Our top tip for Cheap Family Travel is to take a free walking tour. They are given by locals for tips, which makes them as cheap as you need them to be. Every big city has them and they were excellent. Also, make sure you check out hostels. They were inexpensive, clean, accommodating, and very centrally located. A trip to Europe was well worth the years of penny pinching and I hope all my kids let me tag along!
