Austria - Upper Austria - Gosau, Russbach,Annaberg im Lammertal,
The Dachstein West ski resort is an ideal place for family skiing. The area to the north of the Dachstein massif called Dachstein West / Lammertal offers ideal skiing terrain especially for families with children and recreational skiers who prefer milder, relaxing slopes to aggressive and demanding slopes. The local tracks are always perfectly groomed, and the certainty of high-quality snow here lasts until the late spring months. Between the massive glaciated massif of the Dachstein and the Tennengebirge, a sparsely vegetated hilly area with mostly gentle slopes is undulating, which is connected by cable cars and lifts from the nearby villages of Gosau, Russbach and Annaberg in a nice, if rather sprawling, family safari under the Dachstein West brand. The pistes are rather shorter, mostly blue and red, flowing mainly over mountain meadows, but there are also a few long tracks with an elevation gain of over 500 m heading to the valley villages.
The ski swing has two main locations – the summit of Hornspitz, from where wide and undemanding red-blue highways roll both to Gosau and Russbach, and then Zwieselalm with mostly shorter but sportier slopes. Annaberg is connected to the main area by a new, modern cable car with a red, but rather crossing track, and in addition has its own lower hill with two quiet red slopes. Between the Hornspitze and the Zwieselalm lies the Edtalm mountain meadow with several undemanding and intricate red pistes, as well as a non-tricky free terrain, with which the ski routes are also laid out.
There are good views from all the pistes thanks to the sparse vegetation - whether to the dominant Dachstein and the jagged Gosaukamm ridge, or the opposite massif of the Tennengebirge. On the descent from Zwieselalm to Gosau, you can also admire the picturesque lake Gosausee.
At all the main boarding stations – in Gosau, Russbach and Astauwinkel – there are training grounds with children's learning parks, usually also with nearby restaurant facilities and babysitting.
On the slopes there is a nice selection of stylish wooden mountain huts, which look cozy both from the outside and from the inside - no large-capacity "solo houses", but rather a picturesque homely environment. Of course, the cuisine is typically Upper Austrian dense - in addition to soups, mainly schnitzels, sausages, dumplings or pancake jerky are served.
The most accessible boarding points when arriving from the Czech Republic are in Gosau - at the chair lift to Hornspitz or at the cabin at Zwieselalm, parking is free everywhere.
