Pavel Pisklakov — designer, typographer and educator. Born, lives and works in Chelyabinsk, Russia. Assistant Professor at the South Ural State University.
Received a degree in Applied Maths, Pavel Pisklakov deeply engaged in the study of communication design. Specialises in posters, identity, and typography. His works were exhibited all over the world: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Czech Republic, Mexico, Montenegro, Liechtenstein, Iran, Ecuador, South Korea, China, Hungary, Poland, Peru, Estonia, Slovakia, Uruguay, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Macedonia, USA, Thailand, Spain, Austria, Germany, Finland, Bolivia, Iraq, Japan, Denmark, Serbia, etc. Received several national and international awards, among them: Winner of “50 Books | 50 Covers 2018” organised by AIGA and Design Observer, Honorary award at 11th International Triennale of Eco-Poster “4th block”, Excellence Award at 3rd Contemporary Ink Design Biennale on Beijing Design Week 2020 and Excellence Award at Ink Art & Pattern on Beijing Design Week 2019, several Silver Awards and Honourable mentions in Graphis Design Annuals and Graphis Poster Annuals.
Over the years he teaches courses in computer science, computer graphics, typography, principles of art and design, statistics and methods of mathematical modelling. He has held lectures and workshops about newspaper, magazine and poster design, history of the poster and communication design for different audiences. Pavel’s students were winners and finalists of different poster competitions (Poster for Tomorrow, ISPC Skopje, etc.). Design education, integration of math methods and design, exploration of new technologies in media, typography is the field of his research. He speaks at different international design conferences, in particular, he was the only Russian speaker at the international conference on typography Face Forward (2015, Dublin, Ireland), World Design Congress during World Design Summit (2017, Montreal, Canada), 7th International Conference on Typography and Visual Communication (2019, Patras, Greece).
He has also organised and hosted many design events in Chelyabinsk, among them such world-known exhibitions as TDC’s Best Typography, Tolerance Poster Show, annual Poster for Tomorrow exhibitions.
He has been a member of the jury and preselection committees of Poster For Tomorrow, A’Design Award & Competition, Adobe Design Achievement Awards, Grand Prix Du Design, C-IDEA Design Award, etc. He served as vice dean of Faculty of Service and Tourism at South Ural State University (2008-2013)
