Semmering is a historical town situated in Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) near the border with the neighbouring state of Styria (Steiermark). Famous for it's late-19th and early 20th century architectural structures as well as the world renowned Semmeringbahn, this Alpine town of just over five-hundred inhabitants was once a popular summer holiday resort for the high society of Vienna looking for a break and some fresh air outside of the capital city. Today, it still remains to be a popular hiking destination (all year round) as well as a ski resort during the winter months.
