European integration has multiple facets. Initially grounded on the economic logic of market making, it now has to transform itself in a political and military power amidst the war in Ukraine. Drawing from his latest book entitled “Europe contre Europe, entre liberté, solidarité et puissance” (2022), Laurent Warlouzet will enlighten the history of European integration from origins until today by stressing the role of liberal – and neoliberal – market making, and how it was tamed by a social dimension. He will also dwell on the European Union’s search for political and military significance, which has especially been at the top of the European agenda since 2016.
