GMUNDEN LAKE CASTLE TRAUNSEE ???????? Best Travel Ideas for Europe

???????? Gmunden is one of the most charming towns in Austria. Famous for its historic lake castle Schloss Ort on an island on lake Traunsee, it's surely one of the best travel ideas for Europe in 2021. In this Austria travel vlog I'm taking you on a travel walking tour through historic Gmunden and to the lake castle, one of the oldest buildings in the whole Salzkammergut. If you are looking for ideas of where to go in Austria and what to see in Austria, Gmunden is one of the best places in Austria for the best summer trip you can have during your Europe travel in 2021.

The Salzkammergut (or Salzburger Land) is a particularly attractive region to visit in Austria. So plan to do a travel walking tour in the most beautiful village in Austria, or hike the Alpine mountains, or swim in beautiful lakes during your next Austria vacation ('Österreich Urlaub' in German). There are so many things to do in Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut region that you don't want to miss.

In today’s Austria travel vlog I’m going on a travel walking tour through Gmunden which will take me to the beautiful old town with its picturesque pedestrian zone, the walkway along the lakeshore and of course the beautiful Schloss Ort, an historic lake castle situated on a small island which is only connected to the town by a wooden pedestrian bridge.

Gmunden is a 45 minute drive to the east of Salzburg and about 1 hour drive away north from Hallstatt. Should you plan to drive from Vienna to Hallstatt, or vice versa, Gmunden is on the way. If you plan a longer Austria vacation or just a day trip in the Salzburg Land, the Salzkammergut, add Gmunden to your list of travel destinations in Austria.

The town has existed in some form since the 1100’s and has served as an important military base in past centuries. During the 17th century, Battleships were constructed in Gmunden. Today, Gmunden is perhaps most famous for the Gmundner porcelain, the historic primarily white and green colored Gmunden ceramic porcelain that you can find everywhere now. But Gmunden is of course the best place in Austria to get it. You can even visit the porcelain manufacturing site but I didn’t have the time during my visit.

I’m starting my walk in the old town of Gmunden with it’s many beautifully painted and decorated houses, shops and fountains. Just across the main road and bordering the lake, you will find the main town square. The day I was there, an Italian themed market offered numerous delicious snacks. Several nice cafes and restaurants have terraces from where you have great views onto the lake.

The final destination of my walking tour is the lake castle Seeschloss Ort which is only a 20 minute walk way from the town center. It’s a beautiful walk along the lake shore and you will have a great view of the castle all along the way.
