Hallstatt is an alpine village on Lake Hallstatt's western shore in Austria's mountainous Salzkammergut region Salzburg. Its 16th-century Alpine houses and alleyways are home to cafes and shops. Austria's steepest cog railway has been running from St. Wolfgang up the Schafberg since 1893. It takes 35 minutes to reach the summit.
