The House of Nature was founded in 1924 by the zoologist Eduard Paul Tratz (1888–1977) on a private initiative as a “Museum for Performing and Applied Natural History”. Tratz managed the house from its founding 1924 to 1945 and from 1949 to 1976. After that, Eberhard Stüber was director of the house for 33 years. On July 1, 2009, Norbert Winding took over the management. To this day, the museum is operated by the Haus der Natur association - Museum of Nature and Technology.
