In January 2025, Kerstin Gurtner and her boyfriend, Thomas Plamberger, attempted a winter ascent of Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain. Just a few hundred feet below the summit, the climb came to a halt. Kerstin began suffering from hypothermia and was no longer able to continue. Instead of helping her, Thomas decided to abandon her alone in the mountain to freeze.
