You'll find many travel videos and articles with great things to do in Graz, Austria's second city. But we expect few scratch beneath the surface of this UNESCO World Heritage city to reveal more than the usual checklist of attractions. For example, did you know Graz is also a UNESCO City of Design? Beyond the old town there are many brilliant design-led buildings, plus there are countless artists and designers at work throughout the city, and young people turning recycled materials into new fashions.

We've visited the city on numerous occasions so have been to many of the best known places to visit in Graz. This time, and with our heads minded towards more sustainable travel, we wanted to learn more about our destination and the people who call Graz home. So we stayed in Graz longer than the usual short city break, ventured outside of the city to see parts of Styria, the region that surrounds it and we immersed ourselves in all manner of experiences.

Look out in this video for: places you can go shopping in the Lend and Gries districts and support many important local initiatives, discover Graz's double spiral staircase, the Eggenberg Palace, sample farm fresh cheeses (oh and guess which has been listening to One Direction - apparently the music you play a cheese makes a difference to its flavour!), taste award-winning wine at a traditional wine bar in the South Styrian wine region, help preserve local honeybees, explore one of the world's largest Cistercian monasteries and read 16th century books in its library. You can see more in our comprehensive guide to sustainable Graz here: https://livesharetravel.com/43700/things-to-do-in-graz/

There's so much more to do in Graz than the obvious, we encourage you to check out this great European city and to do so as a mindful traveller with sustainability in mind.
