BIOGRAPHY:
Jakob Travnik is an architect and researcher, based in Vienna, Austria.

Currently he is a University Assistant at the Research Unit for Architectural Typology and Design, Institute of Architecture and Design, TU Vienna, Austria. There he is a PhD candidate, working on the topic of nanotourism under the mentorship of Prof. Tina Gregoric.

He studied architecture at the University of Applied Art Vienna, Austria in the class of Zaha Hadid and Kazuyo Sejima, graduating with distinction in 2016. In 2014, he joined the nanotourism research team during the BIO50 Biennial of Design in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2014. Since then, he is a member of the design and research platform ‚nanotourism‘, a participatory, locally oriented alternative to the current downsides of conventional tourism. Since 2014, he is Programme Assistant at AA nanotourism Visiting School , organised in collaboration with Programme Head Aljosa Dekleva in various locations around the world (Slovenia, Hawaii, Peru, France, Austria). He works and collaborates extensively on the topic of nanotourism, with projects spanning from theory to exhibitions, educational and on-site projects.

In 2017 he was part of the design team developing the project ‚Countryside Reloaded’, led by design studio mischer’traxler within the framework of BIO25 ‚Faraway, So Close‘, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

He was Designer in Residence at Atelier Luma, Luma Arles, France (2018 to 2019), guest critic at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Architectural Association, London. Between 2014-2018 he worked for various Vienna based architectural practices and collaborated on several individual architectural and design projects.
