Eve Lawrence was ‘so happy’ that New Zealand finally announced a plan for recovery, but after diving into the detail she realised the plan will effectively keep overseas business locked out until at least April 2022, while it exports domestic tourism and events overseas. This could result in the worst six months for the New Zealand events and tourism community since the pandemic began.

With just 0.7% of all COVID cases coming from New Zealand’s quarantine facilities (MIQ), Lawrence questions the point of an outdated system that’s keeping valuable overseas visitors away from the country. She also describes New Zealand's ‘traffic light’ system that creates more questions than it answers, and outlines the closure of 11 Youth Hostels across country – a sad consequence of lockdown and shutdown of the national border.
