Malkovich shines in the comedy 'The Infernal Comedy - Confessions of a Serial Killer' at the completely sold-out Jameos del Agua.
Hollywood star John Malkovich presents the role of Jack Unterweger in his post-mortem, i.e. fictional autobiography, in which he tells the alleged whole truth about the life and death of the serial killer for the first time. Two sopranos slip into the roles of the women in his life and interpret arias by Vivaldi, Mozart, Haydn and Weber, all of which have love and violence as their themes.
When a dead serial killer returns to the stage to present his autobiography in a public reading, one would hardly expect a comedy. But what should one even expect from a wife-killer play for an actor, two sopranos and baroque orchestra?
'The Infernal Comedy' is a musical theatre adaptation of the events surrounding the psychopath Jack Unterweger.
Vague forebodings immediately take a concrete direction when one learns that John Malkovich plays the role of Jack, who makes the confessions of a serial killer. One expects the unexpected. Hollywood star John Malkovich has always wanted to portray a villain of the worst kind - in this project he has ample opportunity to do so.
The audience on Lanzarote experienced a Malkovich at his evil best.

After its worldwide success (the premiere took place in Vienna on 1 July 2009.
The case of "Jack Unterweger" stirred up emotions not only in Austria and is a prime example of failed resocialisation measures: Unterweger had been convicted of murder while intoxicated with drugs in 1976, but was released as a quasi "showcase case" because of his literary attempts, which were highly acclaimed by intellectual circles. He began writing in prison, became known as a "prison literary man" and was released early from prison in 1990 after the Austrian cultural scene in particular campaigned for his release. He then murdered nine prostitutes in Austria, the Czech Republic and California. On 29 June 1994, immediately after his conviction, Unterweger hanged himself in his prison cell in Graz.
