Journey to Antarctica - Part 6 – Travelogue
Whaler’s Bay (Deception Island) & Half Moon Island 0800 GPS Position: 062°59’ S / 060°34’ W Wind: WNW 15 knots. Sea State: Choppy Waves. Weather: Overcast. Air Temp: +5°C.
I made my way up to Neptune’s Window, with playful fur seals on the way. I learned how to stand my ground with these little sneaky buggers.
Back onboard, a four hour steam to the South Shetland Islands was next on the agenda. As we reached the snow covered Half Moon Island, the wind died down and the sun poked out, setting up perfect conditions for our final outing.

Journey to Antarctica - Introduction - A Travelogue
Why would you want to go to the coldest, driest, windiest continent on earth?!
The word that constantly comes to mind while traveling through the 7th continent is MAGNIFICENCE!
Slicing through the ice, the crunching reverberation and swift movement of the stellar m/v Plancius is exhilarating…it tells me I’m on my way to somewhere beyond special…… I am mesmerized by everything here; captivated completely by the 7th continent… also known as the White Continent …The Polar Circle…It is MAGNIFICENT ANTARCTICA. Unspoiled by human civilization - This ethereal unworldly place defies description.
