The Kunsthistorische Museum Vienna (The Museum of Art History in Vienna) is one of the most underrated museums in all of Europe. This museum is what is known as Vienna's answer to... The Louvre. It is a museum that has been used for all sorts of different purposes and now houses many important pieces of artwork from medieval European paintings to art by Rodin.

I give a you a first-person tour of the museum and show you some of my favorite highlights from inside!

In 1873, Vienna opened up a new museum called "the k.k. Österreichisches Museum für Kunst und Industrie" which means "The Imperial Austrian Museum for Art and Industry". This was supposed to be the new art museum in Vienna, but it was actually just a temporary location. The building on Maria-Theresian-Platz was too small for what they had in mind and they knew that, so here is where the old Naturhistorisches Museum used to be.

In 1914, after World War I started, the Kunsthistorisches Museum also called the KHM for short opened up in its current building on Maria-Theresian-Platz. During World War II, it was heavily damaged, but after the war ended, it was repaired. One of my favorite parts about this museum is that you can take amazing pictures outside (and makes for a great spot for a picnic)!

The area around the museum also has some great restaurants and cafes so you can spend a nice afternoon eating great food here. Vienna is such an amazing city.
