Background
Around 400 BC e. Several Celtic settlements and fortresses arose around the Danube (not far from the city). Within today's city limits was the Grünberg oppidum, an impressive Celtic fortification located on the site of today's city west of Haselgraben and Freinberg, west of the city center.

The Celtic name Lentos was probably given to the settlement on the Freinberg hill, meaning flexible or curved. This name subsequently passed to the later Roman camp. The fortress fell largely peacefully through the ongoing integration of the Kingdom of Noricum into the Roman Empire.
