The holy month of Ramadan kicks off on April 2, according to authorities in most Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and a holy month of fasting for Muslims around the world. The religious period marks the time when Muhammad received the initial revelations that would become the Quran. It begins and ends with the sighting of the crescent moon. How are people marking the month? What traditions do they have? CGTN's reporter shows you around the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, one of the holiest sites to Muslims, and the Muslim Quarter in East Jerusalem, and gives you a picture of how Muslims mark the holy month.
