One of the best Christmas Market in Munich on Marienplatz, 2017.
Three weeks before Christmas the Christkindlmarkt opens at Marienplatz and other squares in the city, selling Christmas goods and food and drink.

The largest and oldest Christmas market in Munich was first documented in 1310 as Nikolaimarkt (Nikolausmarkt) and is thus one of the oldest Christmas markets in the German-speaking world. In the year 1806 the Nikolaimarkt was renamed in Christmarkt. Since 1972, the market has found its regular place on Marienplatz after several relocations.

With its approximately 140 market stalls today, it has around three million visitors from all over the world every year. In addition to the extensive musical and cultural accompanying program, its attractions include the almost 30-meter-high Christmas tree in front of the town hall with around 2,500 lights, which is donated each year from a different location from home or abroad (Austria, Italy) to the citizens of Munich.
