Salzburg's Old Town (Altstadt) is famous for its beautiful Baroque and Gothic architecture, its monumental buildings and artistic heritage. Salzburg was the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The fortress of Hohensalzburg, overlooking the Old Town, dates from the 11th century and is one of the largest castles in Europe. The historic centre of Salzburg is enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
