This video is from our trip to Salzburg (Austria) in May 2015. Me and my wife were living in Geneva (Switzerland) at that time and we took advantage of this to travel to a lot of cities in Europe.
For this trip we took a train from Geneva to Salzburg, it was a long journey of around 8 hrs but it was also a cheap option so we opted for it.
We had booked a hotel in Salzburg right outside main Salzburg station so it was easy for us to catch our return train.
Most of the tourist attractions in Salzburg can be visited on foot which is what we did but there are various local transport options available, one of your first attractions to visit would be the old town which you can easily cover on foot.
We would recommend going to the old town on such a time that you get to see both daytime and night time views, you will see different colors of Fortress in day time and evening. City is divided by the Salzach river where on one side you have your new town and on the other side you have the old town with the mighty fortress.
From the old town you can take a funicular to visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, when visiting the old town don't miss to eat some local food before you take the trip to the fortress, there are a lot of good restaurants in the old town serving local beer and food. Once you reach the fortress you will witness the beautiful view of the city and the Salzach river.
If you visit Salzburg you have to plan at least a day trip to Hallstatt, while most of the people now know about Hallstatt due to FB and Instagram but when were visiting different cities in Europe between 2013-2015 Instagram was not that popular or at least we were not using it that much so we found about Hallstatt only during our research before taking trip to Salzburg and after visiting Hallstatt we realized that we should have at least planned for one night stay in that beautiful village.
To reach Hallstatt we took a bus from Salzburg station to Bad Ischl and from there we had to take a train to Hallstatt and once you get down at Hallstatt station you still have to take a boat ride to reach the village.
Hallstatt is beautiful village situated on the lake surrounded by mountains and is known for its salt mine, you can take a tour of salt mine as we did which you can see in video, you need to take a funicular to reach salt mine and there are some great views from the top of mountain as can be seen in video.
