Some comments by Prof Martin Haditsch in his original upload:
"I am deeply concerned by the actual health disaster in many regions but even then we are forced to think about the medical, psychological, ethical and economical consequences of a shutdown. This global problem needs a global solution which may differ from region to region depending on the co founding factors. To all those who can stand a shit-storm, bashing etc (which must be anticipated when speaking up): please feel free to share this message and/or to translate it in whatever language. All the best and let´s give reason a chance!"
"Dear Steadfast Thinker: excuse me that I read your comment just now and not earlier. If it was your impression that I accused southern countries or people for having an inferior health care system as compared to Austria or Germany I want to apologise. I never had the intention to accuse somebody, I do have very close friends in Spain and Italy (which I used to hug and kiss, too) and - based on my engagement in travel medicine - I try my best to link up to people all over our small world and even to teach respect and sustainable tourism in lectures I give as well as to travellers going abroad. So please take my apology if this lead to a misconception - maybe also due to the fact that I am no native speaker. I only wanted to give some kind of a reason why this happened - not to blame anybody. And I really despise the way rich countries tend to exploit others just because they cannot get enough - so maybe I am not the right person to be addressed as I am on your side. And this is not limited to southern European countries as you know but to many others in Africa, Asia and Latin America as well. But the way rich countries act now will end up in that poorer countries will even get less support which will get into a vicious cycle and cause even more suffering and death in those countries with a weaker social system. That is what I pointed out, too - so it was not not looking down on these countries but - in contrast - indicating shared grief about what is happening now. And yes: I will take care but I will also accept as it comes ( I guess you anticipate that I am one of "the rich"). All the best to you and thank you for pointing on these points which are very important in this context, too."
"Dear steadyfast thinker: one more reply from my side. Everybody thinks that the shutdown under the bottom line only saves lives. This is not true for the moment as people don´t get urgent medication or diagnostics which COSTS lives as well (we should also include those who are desperate, get depressive, commit suicide) neither is it on the long range. You can put is as you like but to spend money on health case systems is mandatory linked to economy which generates the money so desperately needed. So if economy goes down (take Venezuela as a good example before corona) you will have less money to spend. A weaker health care system will without any doubt result in more deaths. Thus saving ten lives today for the price of hundred tomorrow maybe isn´t the best deal. So I would really urge everybody (especially politicians who decide on it) to think it till the end and not to present a step by step approach which trusts in the mechanism that we will forget over time. Yes this is my position, you may call in an opinion - feel free to check it with the support of experts in epidemiology, psychiatry, psychology, communication skills, poverty investigations, ...and global economy. And if you checked my statement closely I was consistently offering maximal protection of so called risk groups which are more or less who run the risk of dying to the disease. Take care and all the best."
