We loved Salzburg but we only had 3 days there before we had to leave so we were not able to go on the Sound of the Music tour. Not only does it take a whole day from our time, but it's very expensive for something you can see yourself with a bus ticket and good map planning. I don't recommend the Salzburg pass either as it's only a discounted price for most of its places and it's not worth the cost.
I recommend that you stay in a campground but the only one is the one we were at and its poorly run and very overcrowded by 5pm so get there early in the day to get a decent spot. However, none of them have shade as the staff has used those for themselves.
