Biography Günther Aigner
Günther Aigner is one of the world’s most renowned researchers on the future of ski tourism. He received his double master’s degree in Sports Science and Economic Education at the University of Innsbruck and at the University of New Orleans (UNO, USA). Aigner’s thesis (2004) was on "The Future of Alpine Skiing,” followed by further research at the Institute of Sports Science at the University of Innsbruck. From 2008 to 2014, he was head of winter marketing for the Austrian ski resort Kitzbühel.
Since 2014, Günther Aigner has been leading “ZUKUNFT SKISPORT – Research & Consulting.” He has conducted hundreds of speeches in his home of Austria and around the world, as well as published and contributed to segments on TV, radio, and print media. Aigner has held guest lectures at universities in Baku (AZE), Belgrade (SRB), Sanya (CN), Hanoi (VN), Innsbruck, Salzburg, Kufstein, Krems and Seekirchen (all in Austria), and has been a lecturer for the Austrian Ski Instructor Federation.
In 2019, he was a contributing author for the Austrian Special Report “Tourism and Climate Change” (ASR19) of the Austrian Panel on Climate Change (APCC). Günther Aigner is a member of the Committee No. VII (“Environment”) of the International Organization of Cable Cars (O.I.T.A.F.). Since 2021, he has been studying in the Management PhD program at the University of Innsbruck.
