Season’s first cruise liner docks at Mormugao

The first luxury cruise liner for the current tourism season, M V Azamara Journey of the Azamara Club Cruises called at the Mormugao Port on Wednesday morning from Mumbai with 648 guests and 401 members of the crew.
The cruise vessel was berthed at 11.07am alongside the cruise berth terminal on its arrival. The cruise liner brought in guests from USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Norway, Austria, and Brazil.
Minister for tourism, Dilip Parulekar, received the guests along with deputy chairman MPT G P Rai, traffic manager Vipin R Menoth and senior deputy traffic manager Jerome Clement.
On berthing of the cruise liner, the guests were taken around for sightseeing to Goa’s famous tourist spots, such spice gardens, heritage sites, temples and churches, beaches, and a visit to the local markets.
MPT is expected to receive 40 cruise liners this year as compared to 29 cruise liners last season.
Cruise tourism augurs well for the local economy and providing active employment and economic engagement of local masses.
The tourism minister has assured all support from the government to cruise liner traffic at the port.
