Arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Took the Maglev (not edited into the video) to downtown and transferred to the Shanghai Metro Network.
Took a stroll along The Bund (0:13) to enjoy the night view of Shanghai's skyline.
Visited Soong Ching-ling Memorial Residence (0:18) in the French Concession. Then walked past the Wukang Mansion (0:53), one of the most recognizable buildings of Shanghai’s French Concession. It was built to commemorate the Normandie, a World War I-era battleship, the building is supposed to look like a ship.
YuYuan or Yu Garden (0:58) is a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. It was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan.
Adjacent to the YuYuan is the YuYuan Bazaar (1:36) where food and souvenirs can be bought. This is where the Huxinting Teahouse is located. They apparently served the Shanghainese Xiaolongbao to Queen Elizabeth II (as shown in the photos hung in the waiting area). For a cheaper fix of their Xiaolongbao, there is a take-away window (1:46) though I would think the quality is different from those served inside the teahouse.
Observed the life of Shanghainese during our visit (1:55). Gridlock traffic during peak hours. Clotheslines along the busy streets for those residents living in Shikumens or in Shanghainese, longdang. Young men playing basketball in public basketball courts while the others running and jogging on the path forming the perimeter of the park. Some were strolling in the park wearing their pyjamas. A city where pedestrian bridges sandwiched between an elevated and ground-level road.
Tianzifang (2:18) is where a traditional residential area in the French Concession being refurbished and now being used as an arts and crafts enclave. The area still retains the feel of a housing area.
Xintiandi (2:41) is also located in the French Concession. It retains the antique walls, tiles and exterior of the Shikumen housing of old Shanghai but its interior embodies a totally different world of international gallery, bars and cafes, boutiques or theme restaurants.
Nanjing Road (2:50) is home to Shanghai's pedestrian shopping street.
Also visited Shanghai Disneyland (3:10).
Left for Hangzhou on the High-Speed Train (3:53) from the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (3:46).
