The winter season of 2020/21 was essentially cancelled by the Austrian government due to the corona virus pandemic.
This meant no green light for tourism; no hotels, B&B’s or chalets; no bars or restaurants, and a closed border to any skiers that hoped to visit the Arlberg during the winter.
It also meant, in the truest sense of the term, a locals only winter.
The harsh economic reality and subsequent loss of purpose resulting from the lockdown was a real low for a town that thrives on showcasing this incredible resort.
Safe to say the skiing and camaraderie shared on the lifts, down empty pistes and in deep powder was a real silver lining.
To share one of the world’s premier ski destinations with only a handful of others was an experience that we will not soon forget.
