Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has issued a decree to form a new cabinet following parliamentary elections held in April.
The new government has been formed by prime minister Imad Mohammad Deeb Khamis who replaced Wael al-Halqi under a presidential decree last month. Key ministers, including foreign minister Walid al-Muallem and defense minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij have been reinstated in their posts. Adib Mayalleh, the former central bank governor, has been named minister of economy and foreign trade. Syria’s ruling Ba’ath Party and its allies won the majority of the votes in April’s parliamentary elections.

Press TV’s correspondent in Damascus, Mohammad Ali, says the new cabinet line-up in Syria is seen as an indication of the government’s determination to fight terrorism while seeking a political solution to the crisis plaguing the country.
