This video relying heavily on newspaper articles and case studies covers the Emergency Quota Act of 1921; its history, how it changed immigration numbers and proportions especially from southern and eastern Europe, how it was carried out with some discussions of its features, problems caused by a lack of strong oversight over shipping companies and U.S. consuls, and problems with continuous over-quotas of some countries. I end with unintended consequence of the law. Some information on the more stringent 1924 law isT also shown. Some case studies are presented. Part 2 on a subsequent video will discuss in some detail preferential immigrants, non-immigrants, non-quota immigrants, and case studies of admitted and deported aliens.
