1. Styria or Steiermark is a state (Bundesland) in the southeast of Austria.

2. Styria was inhabited by Celtic tribes. After its conquest by the Romans, the eastern part of what is now Styria was part of Pannonia, while the western one was included in Noricum.

3. Graz is the capital city of the Austrian state of Styria and second-largest city in Austria after Vienna. In 1999, the city's historic centre was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

4. Styria is popularly known as the “Green Mark” and - mainly in tourism - the “Green Heart of Austria”, as around 61 percent of its land area is forested and another quarter is made up of meadows, pastures, orchards and vineyards. In 2017, almost 12,821,161 overnight stays were counted in all of Styria.

5. Riegersburg Castle is a medieval castle situated on a dormant volcano above the town of Riegersburg in the Austrian state of Styria.

6. Grüner See (Green Lake) is a lake in Styria, Austria in a village named Tragöß.

7. The latest temperature studies suggest that Eastern Styria in particular is particularly susceptible to global warming. Since 1960, the average annual temperature has risen by three degrees, which is twice the value in other regions.
