The Durnstein fortress is where the Duke Leopald V, of Austrian,held Richard the Lion Heart, King of England captive, on his return from the 3rd crusade. He was held for several years while his mother, Eleonora of Aquitane, collected his very large ransom. it was during this time that Richard's evil brother John took control while his brother was detained and Robin Hood came about.
