We went to the Myra Waterfalls (Myrafalle) and Steinwand Gorge (Steinwandklamm) in lower Austria. It seems like a pretty family friendly area with a Gasthaus restaurant as you arrive and playgrounds for kids before the main entrance. It does get busy on weekends it seems! So I recommend the gorge if you want a more quiet hike, which you can buy a separate ticket for if you skip the waterfalls area. In general this area seems to have lots more hiking then just these ticketed spots

It was pretty easy getting here by train from Vienna (always a bonus). We took advantage of OBB's einfach raus ticket (2 people, regional trains round trip is only €35 total! and an additional person is just €4 more!) You do have to take some slower trains, but it was an enjoyable ride only adding about 20 minutes to the trip.
