A two-kilometer railway going over Muong Hoa mountain officially went into operation, Dan Tri reports. The railway belongs to Sun Group – which specializes in tourism infrastructures, themed entertainment and real estate – as a component of its resort complex Fansipan Legend.
The train will travel from the Mgallery Hotel in Sapa to an existing cable station on Fansipan, also owned by the Vietnamese conglomerate. From there, the cable car brings visitors to the peak of Fansipan mountain which is home to a restaurant, shop, temple and scenic overlooks.
The train traverses two tunnels and four viaducts with a maximum speed of 10 meters per second and a capacity of 2,000 passengers an hour.
The two carriages are designed and built by Austrian-Swiss company Doppelmayr Garaventa. Each carriage is 20 meters in length and three meters in width. Each weighs 24 tons and boasts a capacity of 200 passengers.Sun Group's newest railway is also the longest mountain railway in Vietnam to date. The trip from Sapa to Fansipan takes only four minutes via the train, compared to 20 minutes going by car or taxi.
