In The Stopover series I’ll take you around the city and show you the best of what you can enjoy, visit and eat in a short stopover of 24 to 48 hours. We won’t see everything, but we’ll make the most our time at wherever in the world we are!

In the first episode of this new series we’ll discover the amazing city of Vienna, the capital of Austria. Firmly placed on the tourist trail, but for good reason, it’s a beautiful place with incredible history, tasty food and fun nightlife!

For this 24 hours in Vienna, we’ll start the day with the incredible Sachertorte chocolate cake at the legendary Demel which has been in operation since 1888.

We’ll visit and climb St Stephen’s Cathedral, check out the Austrian National Library, the Hofberg palace, museum quarter, Justizpalast (the Palace of Justice), Austrian parliament and the Rathuis (town hall) before stopping off for a well earned break in it’s grounds.

We’ll make a final stop at the University of Vienna before visiting the amazing Figlmüller – Restaurant Bäckerstraße for one of the best lunches ever, a veal goulash.

After lunch it’s on to the Belvedere Palace before heading back to the centre and the Opera House and heading for dinner at Griechenbeisl. You can’t come to Vienna and not try wienerschnitzel at one of the best spots in the city!

After all the food and sightseeing we’ll wind down with a relaxed beer in the 1516 brewpub, before heading over to the Mariahilf and Laimgrube neighbourhoods to visit Vienna’s best place for craft beer, AmmutsØn Craft Beer Dive.

We’ll finish the evening with a late night snack of käsekrainer at Hermann's Würstelstand, the local sausage known as “pus sausage” due to the melted cheese pockets inside.
