The Via Romea Strata is a cultural route to experience on foot or by bike that crosses 4.044 km throughout 7 European countries: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Italy.

The Tuscany region has played a very significant role in history in relation to the various pilgrimage routes. In fact, the Via Francigena, which from Canterbury, in England, reaches Rome and then continues towards Santa Maria di Leuca, passes through the region.
The Via Romea Strata arrives in Tuscany crossing the Apennines at the Passo di Croce Arcana, a place that carries with it a symbolic value: from this summit in fact, you can look towards the north east and imagine the path of the Via Romea Strata which it comes from the Baltic Sea, and you can also look towards the southwest where you can find the destination of this way of faith and culture that is Rome.
The Via Romea Nonantolana-Longobarda, part of the Via Romea Strata, passes through the territory of this region. It passes through several significant places, but in particular the city of Pistoia should be mentioned, whose cathedral of San Zeno has been there since 1145 A.D. and houses a relic of the apostle James that arrived from Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
