What’s on your phone when you travel?
When we were in Vienna & Switzerland this past summer I used a mix of these 14 travel apps to discover new places, keep organized, and smooth travel.
1. Google Maps
2. Airline apps: United, American, etc.
3. Booking.com & Hotel/Rental apps: Marriott Bonvoy, Airbnb, etc.
4. Rental car apps: Hertz, Budget, etc.
5. Local transit apps: for subways, bus systems, and trains
6. Rideshare apps: Uber, Lyft, Bolt, eCabs, etc.
7. WhatsApp
8. Google Translate
9. AllTrails
10. Nature Identifiers: Picture This & Merlin Bird ID
11. Mobile payment apps: Venmo, Paypal, etc.
12. Splitwise (for group trips)
13. (If going to Europe) Rick Steves’ Audio Europe: FREE (!) Audio Walking Tours
14. TripIt
Before I left for this trip—or any trip—I do 3 things:
- Redownload any apps that migrated to the cloud
- Run software updates & update apps
- Double-check that I am still logged into apps, especially the updated ones, & re-login if necessary.
What are the travel apps you can’t do without?!
