The Belvedere is a historic building complex in Vienna, Austria, consisting of two Baroque palaces, the Orangery, and the Palace Stables. The buildings are set in a Baroque park landscape in the third district of the city, on the south-eastern edge of its centre. It houses the Belvedere museum.

After its opening on October 17, 1891, the Belvedere palaces, for a time, are not used as a museum.

The entire palace complex with its gardens is situated on a shallow slope and has a length of about 1 km. Start your visit at the side of the Upper Belvedere and you will have the advantage to walk downhill on your way through the gardens.

The Baroque gardens of the Belvedere rank among the most beautiful in the world. The main garden is situated between the Lower and the Upper Belvedere and extends over three large terraces. The design, by Dominique Girard, garden architect of the Elector of Bavaria, showcases all the essential elements of Baroque garden architecture: symmetrical flower parterres, water basins, tiers and steps, trimmed hedges, and more.
