Mexico Square (Mexikoplatz) isn't something you would find in tourist guidebooks of Vienna, even though it has historical significance.
During World War II, Austria was annexed by Germany and Mexico was the only country to protest this in an international court. As a symbol of gratitude, a square in Vienna was named after Mexico. Today it's a place where you can buy cheap kebab sandwiches and used smartphones.
With a church, it's seedy atmosphere at night and cheap vendors, mexico square actually developed similarities to a mexican boarder town.
However, we only need to cross the Danube and on the other side we'll discover a strong contrast with the city's most modern district, Danube City, where also Austria's tallest skyscraper (DC Tower 1) is located.
