This walk leads through parts of Vienna's city center with the aim of visiting the oldest church in Vienna. This video also contains parts of the so-called Greek quarter (Griechisches Viertel) and Jewish quarter (Jüdisches Viertel) of Vienna.The oldest church in Vienna is located in Vienna's first district on Ruprechtsplatz. The church is called Ruprechtskirche and is very small for a church. According to legend, the church was founded in 740 and has stylistic elements from the Middle Ages as well as from the Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance periods.The Ruprechtskirche is dedicated to Saint Rupert, the patron saint of the salt boatmen and of Salzburg, and is therefore considered to be the founding of Salzburg. This church from the 8th century with stylistic elements from the Middle Ages as well as from the Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance periods.The oldest glass windows in Vienna are in the Ruprechtskirche. Today's church has been altered and rebuilt several times. The oldest surviving walls date from the early 12th century. The church was damaged during a major fire in 1276 that destroyed almost the entire city center and was then given a Gothic style.
