Slovenia absolutely shocked us today. We started deep underground at Postojna Cave — one of Europe’s largest cave systems — riding the cave train, exploring massive caverns, and even mailing a postcard from the world’s only cave post office. From there we explored Hotel Jama’s Cold War “Secret Rooms,” hiked up to Ljubljana Castle for unbelievable city views, and stumbled into the United Buddy Bears world peace exhibition in the center of town.

This is Day 5 of our 14-day, 7-country backpack-only Europe trip, and Slovenia instantly became one of our favorite stops. Clean, colorful, easy to navigate — and full of surprises we absolutely did NOT expect.

We wrap the night along the river with dinner, drinks, and gelato.
