A dam is defined as a barrier or structure across a stream, river, or waterway to confine and then control the flow of water. Dams vary in size from small earth embankments, often for farm use, to high massive concrete structures generally used for water supply, hydropower, and irrigation.

The Schlegeis reservoir is an artificial lake in the Zillertal Alps. It is probably the most famous reservoir in the entire Zillertal - if not in the Alps at all. The picture with the suspension bridge and a view of the glacier went through social media and many now want to go there themselves. It can only be reached by car via a narrow road, the Schlegeis Alpine Road.
